Vikings Rule part 2
Lots of twitter/facebook drama over the past few days– the article in Forbes “Professional Disagreement Over Galaxies Escalates Into Bullying And Harassment” does an excellent job describing the problems.
Toxicity in the field of high-redshift galaxies has been a problem for a very long time. I’m hoping that in the new ‘dawn’ of the James Webb Space Telescope, our community can grow-up and figure out how to do excellent, inspirational science without acting like this. I’m not convinced that the science contributions of a few outweigh the science lost by their unprofessional actions; this issue has certainly taken up alot of time and personal energy that my co-authors and I would have much rather spent writing papers and discovering new things about the universe.
